Respect, not scared – Guardiola draws Manchester derby battle lines

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists his respect for Manchester United has never mutated into fear.

City host United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, looking to extend both a record-breaking 21-match winning run and a 14-point lead over their rivals at the top of the Premier League.

The rivalry has been similarly weighted throughout Guardiola s tenure, with City finishing above United in the Premier League every season since he took the reins in 2016-17 and winning six major honours to the Red Devils two. The league title count looks set to become 3-0.

However, during the run of derbies leading up to City s 2-0 EFL Cup semi-final victory in January, games against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side had become increasingly problematic.

Young would volunteer for England penalty duty

Ashley Young would put his hand up if England s World Cup clash with Colombia on Tuesday goes to penalties.

Young was one of two England players Ashley Cole being the other who missed as the Three Lions exited Euro 2012 in a shoot-out against Italy, but the Manchester United full-back would have no qualms about volunteering again at Spartak Stadium.

Of course, I will put my name forward, he said.

I have the confidence to step up and take one. If it goes that way I ll put my hand up and want to take one.

We have practised them and I have confidence in my ability to score one.

Former PFA chairman Carlisle ´stable´ after serious incident

Clarke Carlisle is stable but very poorly in hospital after being involved in a serious incident.

Police confirmed on Monday that a 35-year-old male pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a lorry on the A64 near Bishopthorpe, York, leaving him with serious injuries.

The man was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, while reports in the British media named Carlisle as the pedestrian involved.

Carlisle is the former chairman of the Professional Footballers Association and the organisation have offered its support to him and his family.

Carlisle s wife Gemma took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank everyone for their well wishes and later provided an update on his health.

Clarke s very poorly but he s alive and stable, she wrote.

You can´t leave a house three-quarters built – Neville urges United to back Mourinho

Gary Neville has called on Manchester United to support manager Jose Mourinho in the transfer market, insisting you cannot leave a house three-quarters built after Sunday s shock loss at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Mourinho was left frustrated by a lack of transfer activity before the Premier League deadline after only Fred and Diogo Dalot arrived and his concerns were laid bare as United crashed to a 3-2 defeat.

A new centre-back was Mourinho s top priority amid links with Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City s Harry Maguire but neither were signed, and United s partnership of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were exposed at Falmer Stadium – defensive errors contributing to the Red Devils first loss of the season.

Maybe what is expected of Liverpool is too much – Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum believes Liverpool have a long way to go to catch Manchester City despite the heightened expectations brought by the high-profile arrivals of Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Jurgen Klopp s men finished 25 points behind City in the Premier League last term but have won all four of their league games to get their 2018-19 season off to a flying start.

Liverpool only secured Champions League qualification on the last day of the 2017-18 season although they reached the final of the tournament in May, losing to Real Madrid after two Loris Karius errors.

And Wijnaldum suggested talk of the Reds challenging for the domestic title could be premature given the ground they have to make up on City, who have dropped two points this term after a draw…

The 4 stars Frank Lampard is trying to push out of Stamford Bridge

Announcing earlier in the week that and are the latest stars to join Chelsea, it has been a lively summer at Stamford Bridge and Frank Lampard s side aren t done yet.

Already bringing in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner last month, the former Premier League champions are also inching towards what looks set to be a €100million deal with Bayer Leverkusen for German sensation Kai Havertz.

Still heavily linked with a move for former academy starlet and West Ham ace Declan Rice, Lampard will have one eye on his wage bill and it is no secret that he is keen to see a few of his squad head in the other direction.

With a real squad shakeup in West London this summer, who are the four Chelsea stars being pushed towards the exit?

Guardiola confident FFP investigation will not taint Manchester City legacy

Pep Guardiola insists his legacy at Manchester City will not be impacted by allegations of Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches and the subsequent UEFA investigation.

UEFA announced this week that its Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) is investigating City following reports from German publication Der Spiegel, which drew upon documents purportedly obtained by whistleblowers Football Leaks.

It was claimed that City topped up multi-million pound sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi companies in order to circumvent rules around how much money owner Sheikh Mansour could put into the club.

A City statement, in response to the announcement, welcomed the opening of proceedings, hoping to bring to an end the speculation .

Mauro Icardi: Poaching Goals (and Hearts) for Kicks and Giggles

There is a certain stigma around Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi.

The 25-year-old Argentine superstar does indeed give you that feeling that’s hard to wrap one’s head around. You simply hate that you love him so much. Does it make any sense?

Prototype Poacher

It’s with an infectious smile that Mauro Icardi fights off controversy that’s been following him since the very beginning of his professional football career. It’s that same smile that helps him discard opinions of others and do things his own way and on his own terms. Even if it means destroying peoples’ lives. Or his own.

It is a lesser known fact that Inter Milan captain started his career at Barcelona. The Argentine walked away from an opportunity to work his way through to the shiny light…

Cristiano Ronaldo a source of inspiration for Antoine Griezmann

Cristiano Ronaldo is a source of inspiration for everyone , according to France forward Antoine Griezmann.

France face Ronaldo s Portugal in their final Group F game at Euro 2020, in what is a repeat of the Euro 2016 final.

Despite Ronaldo succumbing to injury on that night in Paris, Portugal went on to clinch the trophy with a 1-0, extra-time victory.

Both teams played on Saturday but fell short of the results they wanted. France could only draw 1-1 with Hungary in Budapest, while Portugal were beaten 4-2 by Germany.

Ronaldo put Fernando Santos side ahead in Munich, taking his tally to the tournament to three goals in two games, while he is now on 107 international goals, two shy of matching the record set by Iran great Ali Daei.
