Colombian defender on Genoa radar

Sky Sport Italia has learned that Genoa are considering a move for Atletico Nacional defender Stefan Medina.

The club chiefs have been disappointed by the poor start of the season, and they believe the back line needs to be reinforced at the earliest opportunity.

Signing a new centre-back is, therefore, a priority for the Rossoblu and they seem to have made the Colombian defender their number one target for the winter transfer window.

Genoa were unsuccessful in their attempts to sign the player during the summer transfer window, but they are ready to reignite their interest.

Stefan Medina has spent his entire career up to date at Atletico Nacional, making 79 league appearances, scoring 3 goals and winning the 2011 Apertura title in the process.

I´m not yet at Ronaldo and Messi level – Griezmann

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann concedes he is not yet at the same level as Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 25-year-old is among the favourites for this year s Ballon d Or after sustaining exceptional form for club and country.

Griezmann scored 32 goals last season as Atletico finished third in LaLiga and reached the Champions League final, before he claimed the Golden Boot at Euro 2016 as he fired in six goals to take France all the way to the final.

But the former Real Sociedad forward, who has struck six times in as many league games this term, believes he must win more trophies if he is to be considered on the same level as the Barcelona and Real Madrid forwards.

I think I still have more to do to be their equal, starting with winning…

Ronaldo ´happy and proud´ after goal milestones

Cristiano Ronaldo spoke of his pride after he moved past 500 career goals and equalled Raul s Real Madrid goalscoring record against Malmo on Wednesday.

The forward scored with a clinical finish after Isco s pass on 29 minutes before his last-minute close-range strike from Lucas Vazquez s cross took him to 501 career goals and his Madrid tally to 323 strikes.

That means he is level with Raul at the top of the Santiago Bernabeu scoring charts and did it in 308 games, while the icnonic Raul took 741 matches.

Ronaldo, 30, has fond memories of playing in Sweden having scored a famous hat-trick in a World Cup qualification play-off for Portugal in 2013 and will now set his sights on breaking the record outright next time out against Atletico Madrid.

Mount won and converted a spot-kick in the second half to reach four Premier League goals for the season – all of which have come on Chelsea s travels – as the Blues edged into the top four.

Jannik Vestergaard hit the woodwork with a header but Southampton did at least end their six-match losing run, with a healthy gap of 11 points to the bottom three.

Many of Chelsea s early attacks came through Marcos Alonso, who scuffed a volley wide from a good position after …

Liverpool could pay €100m for Bruno Guimaraes

Liverpool are interested in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to . The report has claimed that Liverpool are willing to pay as much as €100 million for the Brazil international midfielder.

Bruno is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and has been superb for Newcastle. One of the main reasons why the Magpies are doing so well at the moment is because of the former of the Brazilian. Eddie Howe’s side are in a very good position to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table at the moment with 56 points from 33 matches, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played 32 games. Meanwhile, Newcas…

A-League Preview: Wanderers, Roar set for top-two battle

Western Sydney can extend their lead atop the A-League when they face Brisbane in a top-of-the-table clash on Friday.

The Wanderers have picked up where they left off in their inaugural campaign, winning four of their six matches to start 2013-14 to be two points clear at the top.

Last season s premiers have again relied on their strong defence, having conceded just three times to stay unbeaten.

Tony Popovic s men look beatable, though, and face a huge test when they travel to Suncorp Stadium to take on the second-placed Roar.

Mike Mulvey s men slumped to a surprise 2-1 loss at Newcastle last time out but were undermanned due to injuries and international duty.

Ivan Franjic and Matt McKay appear set to return if fit after featuring in Australia …

McClean slams Sunderland´s handling of poppy controversy

James McClean has slammed former club Sunderland for hanging him out to dry over his decision not to wear a poppy on his shirt to mark Remembrance Day while at the club.

The winger first refused the gesture in November 2012, and did likewise when playing for Wigan Athletic earlier this season.

McClean made the decision due to being born in Derry, where 14 people were killed when British soldiers fired on civilian protesters during Bloody Sunday in 1972.

In a statement released ahead of Wigan s clash with Bolton in November, McClean explained that the poppy represents something very different to the people of his hometown, claiming wearing it would be a gesture of disrespect for the innocent people who lost their lives in the Troubles – and Bloody Sunday esp…

Leicester reject Musa bid

Leicester have rejected a bid for Ahmed Musa, according to . The bid in question came from Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr and it amounted to £12million.

Leicester signed Musa in 2016 for £16.6million from CSKA Moscow, the club s transfer record at the time. But after only one season, during which he made 32 appearances in all competitions and scored only four goals, he was loaned back to the Russian club for the 2017/18 season.

He has made 73 appearances for Nigeria, a significant number for a 25-year-old player, but given his position on the pitch his output of 15 international goals is just as unimpressive as that he has achieved for Leicester.

Seemingly out of favour at the King Power Stadium, Musa has been under observation of several clubs across Europe, a…

Cash-strapped Portsmouth allowed to sell players

Cash-strapped Portsmouth were given permission by the English Premier League (EPL) on Wednesday to sell players before the end of this season.

Bottom-of-the-table Portsmouth applied to the EPL last month to sell players outside the transfer window but this was refused.

However, following an EPL board meeting last week where Portsmouth were deducted nine points for entering administration, a move that all but assured the south coast side of relegation, the Premier League have now granted them permission to make sales in certain circumstances with immediate effect.

An EPL statement issued Wednesday said: The Premier League board meeting that convened last week to consider the administration of Portsmouth FC dealt with a number of matters beyond just the applicatio…
